GSIC powered by Microsoft, the Madrid-founded sports innovation network, has become the Global Sports Innovation Partner for SPORTSDAQ, billed by its organisers as India's first live sports business exchange. The inaugural SPORTSDAQ event is scheduled to run from 26 to 28 November 2026 at the Helipad Exhibition Centre in Gandhinagar, in the Ahmedabad metropolitan area, timed to India's build-up toward the 2030 Commonwealth Games, its declared interest in the 2036 Olympic Games, and a proposal to host the 2038 Asian Games. The announcement describes the partnership as giving GSIC a formal role connecting India's sports sector to its international network of organisations, investors, start-ups and universities, and it arrives as the third distinct international move GSIC has announced in 2026 alone.
What is GSIC powered by Microsoft?
GSIC, the Global Sports Innovation Center powered by Microsoft, is a non-profit sports-tech cluster that opened in Madrid in 2015 as a public-private-academic initiative developed with Microsoft; Iris Córdoba, now its Managing Director, served as its manager at launch. GSIC describes itself as a collaboration between public bodies, private companies and academic institutions, connecting sports organisations with technology providers. It expanded with a dedicated Asia-Pacific base in Singapore in December 2021, and by 2026, on GSIC's own published figures, counted close to 300 member organisations across roughly 51 countries, with about a quarter of that membership based in the APAC region. GSIC's published member roster spans federations, leagues, technology vendors and start-ups, including names such as ONE Championship, Cricket Australia and Technogym.
How does the SPORTSDAQ partnership fit into a wider 2026 pattern?
Read in isolation, a partnership with a first-year exhibition event in India might look like a single opportunistic tie-up. Read alongside two other 2026 developments, it looks more like a deliberate widening of GSIC's international footprint.
In January 2026, GSIC relaunched its Global Ambassador Programme, an enhanced version of an earlier initiative designed to give the network a standing presence of senior representatives across key markets rather than relying solely on its Madrid and Singapore offices. GSIC has since named the founder of HoloMotion, a Chinese sports-technology company, as its China Ambassador; HoloMotion itself describes the company as the first Chinese member of the GSIC ecosystem. Separately, GSIC was included in the Financial Times' Europe's Leading Start-Up Hubs 2026 ranking, compiled with Statista and Sifted, placing 75th, with GSIC's own announcement adding that it was the only organisation on the list specialised in sports technology.
Three developments around GSIC in 2026, read together: a relaunched ambassador structure with a new China-linked appointment, an external hub recognition from a Tier 1 business publication, and now a named partner role at an inaugural national sports exchange. The FT ranking is a piece of external recognition rather than a GSIC-initiated move, and is read here on those terms. None of the three, alone, would justify calling this a pattern. Together they meet a reasonable evidentiary bar, as a Voice Sport editorial read rather than as a strategy GSIC has itself framed, for describing 2026 as a year in which GSIC visibly extended its reach beyond its founding Madrid to Singapore axis, rather than as a single headline event. Two of the three rest substantially on GSIC's own published account, which is worth holding in mind when weighing the pattern.
What does the SPORTSDAQ partnership actually involve?
The event's own site lists Round3 and K and D as organisers, KNS Media as co-organiser and Exhibetter as strategy partner; trade coverage of the GSIC announcement, including SportsMint Media and EventFAQs India, describes SPORTSDAQ more simply as organised by Exhibetter and Round3. Its first edition is expected to draw more than 1,000 conference delegates and over 100 speakers, per the organiser's own published figures, which also advertise more than 200 exhibitors; trade coverage of the partnership puts the exhibitor side at more than 150 sports business service providers. GSIC's role is that of Global Sports Innovation Partner: it is not the event organiser, but a named partner tasked with bringing international connections and expertise into the programme, alongside the organising and commercial roles held by Round3, Exhibetter and their co-organisers.
"India stands on the threshold of a transformational decade for sport," said Yogesh Vyas, Chief Executive Officer of Exhibetter, of the event's ambition, adding that as the country prepares to deliver world-class sporting events and infrastructure, technology "will be at the heart of that transformation" (per SportsMint Media, 2026).
Iris Córdoba, GSIC's Managing Director, framed the partnership around timing rather than a single deal: "India is entering a defining decade for sport, with a unique opportunity to combine ambition, investment, innovation and international expertise" (per SportsMint Media, 2026).
That timing argument rests on a specific and unusually compressed calendar. Ahmedabad was selected to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games by delegates at the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow in November 2025. India is bidding to host the 2036 Olympic Games, having filed a letter of intent with the International Olympic Committee, and the Indian Olympic Association has submitted an official bid for Ahmedabad to host the 2038 Asian Games; the Olympic Council of Asia's Executive Board has welcomed that bid and resolved to establish an Inspection and Evaluation Committee. A national sports business exchange landing in the middle of that run gives GSIC's India entry a concrete calendar reference point beyond general market-growth language, though procurement, technology adoption and investment decisions tied to one awarded Games and two further, still-undecided host selections remain a Voice Sport editorial read rather than an established outcome. This article does not impute the outcome of either the 2036 or the 2038 host selection.
What does this mean for GSIC's existing members and Nordic sport-tech companies?
For sport-tech companies already inside GSIC's network, an India anchor point matters less as an established market opening and more as a test of whether GSIC's ambassador-and-hub model can be replicated in a market with a genuinely different procurement culture and mega-event calendar to Madrid or Singapore. GSIC's value proposition to its members has always rested on cross-border introductions; a formal India role, timed to a decade of sports infrastructure spending oriented around the awarded 2030 Games and the two undecided host selections that follow it, is the kind of connection GSIC members might reasonably hope the network could help them access, whether that means Nordic wearables and fan-engagement vendors or Iberian venue-technology firms already inside the GSIC ecosystem. Whether that access materialises in practice is not established by the SPORTSDAQ announcement, and this is a Voice Sport editorial read on potential relevance rather than a claim GSIC has itself made about member benefits.
The more open question is whether SPORTSDAQ becomes a recurring annual fixture with a standing GSIC presence, similar to the Singapore hub's evolution from a single agreement into a standing regional office, or whether it remains a one-off partnership tied to a single exhibition. The Singapore precedent, formalised in December 2021 after an earlier period of GSIC activity in the region, suggests GSIC has previously converted an initial market entry into standing regional infrastructure. Whether India follows that path, and on what timeline, is not yet established by the SPORTSDAQ announcement alone.
What remains uncertain
The SPORTSDAQ announcement establishes a partner role and an event date; it does not establish a financial commitment, a headcount for any dedicated India presence, or a timeline for anything resembling the Singapore office model. Whether the three 2026 developments around GSIC (the ambassador relaunch, the FT ranking recognition, and now SPORTSDAQ) represent a coordinated strategic push or three separately timed, loosely related developments that happen to land in the same calendar year is also not something the public record currently resolves. The next twelve months, and specifically whether GSIC returns to SPORTSDAQ's second edition or announces further India-specific activity, will be the clearer test of which reading holds.
